Daniel Robert Ian Dubienski is remembered as a fun-loving kind spirit as his Facebook friends commiserate his death in a snowboarding tragedy Saturday.
Dubienski, 27, of Richmond was identified by regional coroner Bruce Chamberlayne on Tuesday as the man who died after hitting a tree at Big White Ski Resort.
The B.C. Coroner‘s Service expects to issue a report within the next three months.
“I understand that it was unwitnessed, but if someone has any information about the incident, they could certainly contact our office,” said Chamberlayne.
Dubienski, who was apparently not wearing a helmet, was visiting the resort with nine friends from the Lower Mainland. He was snowboarding on the Whitefoot Trail, an intermediate groomed run, when he hit the tree. An off-duty doctor following Dubienski down the hill heard people on the chairlift yelling and immediately started working on him. Another skier went to the bottom station of the chairlift and alerted ski patrollers, who were there within minutes.
Dubienski suffered severe head injuries and was reportedly declared dead at the scene.
“At this point, the information that we have is that he died from injuries that he sustained on the hill,” said Chamberlayne.
A Facebook page set up in Dubienski‘s memory had 435 people sending in condolences as of Tuesday. Top of Page
