A driver spotted using his cellphone had drugs in his car, police discovered Monday.

Kelowna RCMP pulled over a 42-year-old Kelowna man when an officer observed him talking with cellphone in hand while driving his red Ford coupe about 8:40 p.m.

The vehicle was pulled over at Springfield and Spall.

While dealing with the driver, the officer not only smelled the odour of marijuana, but saw some in plain view inside the vehicle.

The driver was arrested and his vehicle was searched. Police found 7.5 grams of hashish oil, 32 grams of hashish resin, a small amount of marijuana bud, and drug paraphernalia.

The driver received a $167 ticket for using an electronic device while driving, as well as a notice to appear in court in July to face a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
